National News:  AAP’s loss in Delhi had raised serious questions about its future trajectory, with many writing off the party’s relevance beyond the capital. But the by-election results from Ludhiana West in Punjab and Visavadar in Gujarat have flipped the narrative. Far from being a regional player on the decline, AAP has now proved its capacity to recover and win in challenging territories.

The Ludhiana West win is especially significant as it came against a seasoned Congress candidate, signaling that AAP’s grip on Punjab remains firm. Meanwhile, its Gujarat performance shocked political pundits, as the party snatched a BJP-held seat in its stronghold.

Ludhiana Win Reinforces Punjab Dominance

In the Ludhiana West bypoll, AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora defeated Congress heavyweight Bharat Bhushan Ashu by over 10,000 votes. The large margin underlined public confidence in AAP’s governance in Punjab, which is already under its rule. The victory has not only embarrassed Congress but has also sent a strong message that AAP remains the dominant political force in the state. It’s a win that’s expected to boost the morale of AAP workers ahead of future electoral battles.

 Visavadar Upset: BJP’s Fortress Breached

Perhaps more surprising was AAP’s win in Gujarat’s Visavadar constituency. Candidate Gopal Italia secured a convincing victory over BJP’s Kirit Patel by more than 17,000 votes. This result in the heart of BJP-dominated Gujarat has turned heads. This marks one of AAP’s rare wins in Gujarat and highlights its growing base in western India. The victory suggests that BJP’s stronghold may be more vulnerable than it appears—especially if alternative narratives gain momentum.

Kejriwal Back in the Game—And on the Offensive

Following the twin wins, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was quick to take aim at both Congress and BJP. In a public statement, he credited the victories to voter satisfaction with AAP’s governance model and accused rival parties of conspiring to stop AAP. Kejriwal’s reenergized presence suggests he may now set his sights on a larger national role once again. Party insiders are also fueling speculation about his potential entry into the Rajya Sabha in coming months.

Winds of Change Before 2027?

The bypoll outcomes are more than symbolic wins—they point to a possible rebalancing of political power in key states. AAP’s victories have disrupted traditional equations, especially in Punjab and Gujarat. With the 2027 assembly elections inching closer, both BJP and Congress now find themselves facing a reinvigorated opponent that knows how to capitalize on voter dissatisfaction and local governance issues.
